Enchanting Wedding Sarees from Maharashtra – Paithani Sarees

by Shatika, June 27, 2016

The Paithani silk saree from Aurangabad, Maharashtra has charmed us through the ages. The saree was made in pure gold during the reign of the Peshwas and the pallus were made of pure gold mixed with copper to give it strength. The zari today is made of silver coated with gold. It was then unifying the world. The romans it is believed, gave gold for the sarees. Aurangzeb was a great patron of the saree. Paithani even now unifies India. As living in India, you can choose from the exclusive saree available everywhere, to flaunt and add glamour to a wedding  in general and a maharashtrian wedding in particular.

The pallus are either embellished with pankhi with proud peacocks or with coconut trees or Narali. We can divide the saree into motifs, weaving and colours. The motif of peacock in a bangle and of a single peacock. The tota munia motifs represent the sanctity of joy and love.

The saree is a weave of love , creating harmony and beauty. The British Airways has the paithani design on its wing. Well it has an inexplicable influence on life. The saree is an heirloom which is treasured by each household as these old pure gold sarees today are rare and very expensive and so it is a priceless gift which mothers give their daughters along with their love and best wishes.
