Blooming Elegance of Sarees

by Shatika, June 15, 2016

The saree which saved Draupadi and is a lifesaver to attend any function. As you never go wrong with a saree. A needs nothing by itself it is beautiful, but the eternal question ,’Am I the fairest of them all?!!’ Makes the ladies run against time and shop and shop. There is nothing worse than a over laden woman wearing heavily embellished saree. You don’t have to carry your treasure chest! Chiffon sarees need accessories while silks do not as they are already so heavily endowed. But the jeweler has to come out of the vaults! Be it party wear or daily office wear, sarees would always be on the top of the list. Although we believe a saree is a divine piece of attire in itself but we at Shatika believe a little help will not harm it. We love the idea of accessorizing the saree. It is going to be so much fun.

First get an appointment with the best hair dresser in your town. Decide your saree. What is the colour of your saree? All this helps in accessorizing the saree.

First in line is the hand bag for your i-phone, tissues and lipstick. A small clutch in stones, crystal or silk. May be a potli if it is a rich silk saree. Even a small hand bag will do in leather coloured or brown. Keep your bulky day bag away in the cupboard. So with your crowning glory in place and a delicate bag in your hand, we are ready for the next.

Secondly, get the most awesome bindi keep it subtle for daytime but after nine make it dramatic. Bindi’s ladies is your third eye! Do not go without it! What I love about sarees is that, the make need not be loud and the simplest girl can look like a queen!

Thirdly, kamarband and bajuband these are for dramatic effect at weddings. They look lovely with chiffon sarees. The traditional jewellery was worn in the earlier times to prevent the girls from putting on weight. They were slim as a reed, your mother–in-law will tell you. ‘Now a days these girls do not work –We did work!’ Well if was true, all the gyms will close down! But we love stories.

Fourth, on our list is bangles and toe rings and if you wear slippers and are very tall then payals. The bangles could be solid gold karas or gold bangles. Glass bangles from Moradabad come in all colours embellished with stones, lac, thread or pearls .They give such a lovely finish to the picture.

Fifth and final call: the shoes. Well, they could be mojris, if you are tall and stilettos if you want to tower over everyone. Wedges, high, low heels the choice is endless. A saree looks elegant with heels. Well no amount of advice can surpass the critical eyes of a mirror –so before stepping out put your best foot forward- you deserve it.
