A fashion week is an event, lasting approximately one week, where in fashion designers, brands or “houses” display their latest collections in runway shows to buyers and the media. Most importantly, these events let the industry know what’s “in” and what’s “out” for the season.

The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the of the world, the “big four” receiving the majority of press coverage being New York, London Milan Paris. Other notable week long shows are held in cities around the world. India also has an indigenous week long fashion extravaganza. It is sponsored by the house of beauty-Lakme and Wills. The leading designers like Ritu Kumar, Neeta Lulla, Nikhil Thampi promoted the saree in its varied textures and styles.
